This is part one of the four
stories about Zala, the saluki
and her thoughts about obedience and Mum. Enjoy!
Hello,
my name is El-Adini Gamil, Zala among friends and I am a saluki. I was two years
old in March (1995). I am young and promising, but I have allready
experienced a lot. Among other things, Mum and I have become last but one
in a inofficial obedience competition in our local club. This was our first
competition and provisional our only one (1995), but we are not giving up.
At
first,
there was this exercise called Long Down. Mum insisted for me to lay down on the
wet gras, for two whole minutes, together with other dogs that I didn't
even know!!! Of course I didn't bother to do that. Mum tried to blame me for
being a chicken, but Mr. Judge just said she was a chicken herself, that didn't
practise with me in weather like this.
The
next
exercise
was Heal On Leash and this went pretty ok, if it hasn't been for the case that
Mum stared me deep in the eyes all the time, during our leash-walking. I think
she tried to hypnotise me and I don't think hypnotising is allowed in
competitions.
Then
it was Heal Free (off the leash). At that time the hypnosis was over, after a
warning from Mr. Judge and Mum changed to a stiff stick, walking beside me. This
was rather sad, because I found hypnosis funny. Suddenly I was bored and
discovered how much interesting things that happened outside the
competition-ring.
The
funniest exercise was when Mum called me to heal and I sat 20 meters away.
Mr.
Judge gave us zero points in this excercise!!! And just because I wanted to show how fast I could
run up to the clubhouse and back. The sad thing was that Mr. Judge was not
impressed.....
